BRYAN MILLAR WALKER · YOUR GUIDE
My home.
A different
perspective.
I’m Bryan — a photographer, author and tour guide from Glasgow. Scotland is where my stories begin, and where I’d love to help you find a few of your own.
A little of my story ↓
FINDING MY WAY HOME
Some places stay with you.
Others, you learn to see again.
I grew up on the outskirts of Glasgow, with Scotland’s hills, coast and islands close at hand. My dad took me out on walks and adventures, introducing me to places that would later become part of my work. I didn’t always appreciate them at the time. Looking back, those early journeys gave me more than I realised.
My first creative path was graphic design. I went on to spend time in Argentina and Colombia, before returning to Glasgow and finding a new appreciation for the country I’d grown up in. Photography became a way to look more closely — at the light, the landscape and the stories carried by a place.
That’s still what draws me out. A ruined castle is more than a beautiful shape against the hills. A quiet road is more than a way to get somewhere. The history, the weather and the small details give Scotland its character, and there’s always something else to notice.

WHY DISTINCT SCOTLAND EXISTS
The journey matters
as much as the view.
Distinct Scotland brings those interests together: photography, stories and the pleasure of sharing a place with someone seeing it for the first time. My tours are personal, with a route we build together and room to respond to the day.
We might spend time with a well-known landscape, take a quieter road, or stop because the light has changed. I want the trip to feel like your time in Scotland — with space to be curious, rather than a list to get through.
You don’t need to be a photographer or an experienced walker. Tell me what interests you and what feels comfortable. We can make room for a gentle wander, a bigger hill, a castle story or a good lunch with a view.

Unseen Scotland
The landscapes, hidden ruins and stories that keep me exploring.
My book brings together photographs and the history and folklore behind the places. It moves through the West Coast, Hebrides, Highlands and East Coast — familiar landscapes seen afresh, alongside quieter corners you might otherwise pass by.
Think of it as a little inspiration for your own travels, or a way to spend time with Scotland from wherever you are.

Scran & Scramble
In An American in Scotland, I join Kobie Jordan for a five-part journey through the country he first knew from films and television. Together we explore the landscapes, food, people and stories behind the familiar picture.
It’s another way to share the Scotland I know: curious, full of character, and always capable of a surprise.
